The Precision Series Tier1 Hardness, Iron and Manganese Filter and Water Softening System is a water softening solution that is ideal for families of 1-6 people, based on water usage and demand. This system softens your water by reducing hard water and contaminants contributing to scale build-up such as calcium and manganese. Reducing the presence of these chemicals increases the effectiveness of soaps and detergents as well as protects your water-using appliances. With softened water, you can enjoy spot-free dishes, smoother hair, brighter laundry, and fewer water stains around drains, in addition to protecting your appliances from lowered productivity and early mechanical failure due to scale build-up. The Tier1 premium media blend also allows you to filter up to 5 ppm of iron and 2 ppm of Manganese. By reducing these chemicals not only can you see, smell, and taste the improved quality of your water but you can trust it's filtering out harmful contaminants and improving every drop.

Note: Inlet water that contains measurable levels of chlorine or chloramines may adversely affect the resin life.

Hard Water Worries

Hard water is a phrase used to describe the presence of untreated water containing manganese and calcium, two minerals that contribute to scaling build-up. Left untreated, the scale can cause inefficiencies of water-using appliances, block or corrode pipes and plumbing, cause early appliance failure, and lead lower the effectiveness of detergents and soaps. Treating your water with a softener helps reduce these concerns by using ion exchange resin to capture, retain, and finally remove these minerals from your water. This process adds sodium to your water at the cost charging the resin but yields the results of cleaner dishes, brighter clothes, smoother hair and skin, and the knowledge that your hard water worries are being treated.

Grains of Hardness

A family of 4 with 20 grains of hardness: Your family of 4 will use approx. 300 gallons of water per day (4 people x 75 gallons per person). Since the water has 20 grains of hardness, you'll need to treat 6,000 grains of hardness per day (300 X 20). If you give the softener its full dose of salt, 15 lbs. per cubic foot, you can go about 7-1/2 days before regenerating (45,000/6,000).

Frequently Asked Questions

How much is the Max. Hardness of the Water (in GPG)? During set-up, the customer customizes the regeneration cycle based on their water hardness level. Instructions for how to calculate this level can be found in the user guide with every product.

How much is the max. Clear Water Iron Removal (ppm)? An iron filter is recommended for iron levels above 5 ppm

Is it Demand Initiated or Timed? Tier1 water softeners are demand initiated, the control valve features a water use probe, which measures water use

How long does the Regeneration Cycle take? Approximately one hour

Will I experience a disruption in water service during the Regeneration Cycle? No, this system features the Tier1 Automatic Bypass Control Valve

What is in the mineral tank? The system arrives to you pre-filled with Tier1's premium HIM and Ion Exchange Resin blend

Does it have an indicator to notify me about low salt? No

What if my home is plumbed with PEX or CPVC supply tubing? Homes plumbed with PEX or CPVC supply tubing may require the use of compression fittings, such as the Sharkbite® brand. Due to varying sizes and configurations, compression fittings are not included with the water softener. If these fittings are required, they can be purchased for a reasonable price at most hardware stores.
