Usage of the salt-free conditioning system on private well water must meet the following requirements:
A pre-treatment system for Iron, Manganese, Copper, and Sulfur must be installed prior to the salt-free conditioner unless a professional water analysis shows that the raw well water meets the following chemistry requirements: Iron less than 0.3 mg/L, Manganese less than 0.05 mg/L, copper less than 1.3 mg/L.
Salt-Free Softener Advantages
Tier1's salt-free softener boasts many user convenience advantages to our traditional softener systems. These advantages include the following:
No Valve Programming
Salt-free systems do not require valve programming during set up. This system simply needs to be connected to the waterline and it will go to work, no need for finding the settings that work best for you or finding out how to navigate the valve head menu.
No Salt Replacement
Expensive salt replacements are a thing of the past with a salt-free softener. Not only does this save you money as traditional softeners can consume a lot of salt over the course of the year but this also saves the hassle of checking the brine tank, running out to get more salt, and lugging those heavy salt bags around and to your softener.
No Brine and Brine Line
Brine solution is bad for the environment and for your plumbing leading down to the drain. By removing this element you can also save the hassle of setting up the brine line directly to a drain or sink. No more exposed drain lines or worry about the air gap. Salt-free systems offer this installation and operation convenience.
Template Assisted Crystallization (TAC)
Template Assisted Crystallization (TAC) is a form of water refinement that provides softened water without removing the hardness minerals. Instead of trapping and then expelling the minerals which contribute to hardness (brine solution), this salt-free softener uses specialized resin which turns the minerals into their less ionic and more stable crystalline forms. In this state, they are incapable of bonding with each other or other surfaces and are effectively washed down the drain. This process reduces the chance of continued scale development and may result in enhanced effectiveness of soaps and detergents. These crystalline minerals pose no health risk, and additionally, the process does not add extra sodium into your water like a traditional softener would during ion exchange process.
KDF Media Advantages and Benefits
KDF (Kinetic Degradation Fluxion) media is a copper-zinc formulation blend that is highly effective at reducing chlorine, lead, mercury, iron, and hydrogen sulfide from your water. Typically used as pre-treatment or as a primary treatment method, KDF media delivers a superior filtration performance compared to traditional carbon exclusive treatment. The process works by exchanging electrons with contaminants in order to change them into less problematic, harmless components. In the case of chlorine, an electronic is picked up from the KDF media to turn the chlorine into chloride, a more stable ion generally present in salt. For hydrogen sulfide, the copper loses an electron and the sulfur gains an electron to form copper sulfide and water. Insoluble copper sulfide can then be backwashed from the KDF media. Invest in a system which provides effective chlorine and heavy metal reduction with Tier1.
Importance of Pre-Filtration
Pre-filtration is a wise move for whole home solution systems as it filters out particles that would otherwise clog up the following systems. Usually in the form of sediment filters such as polypropylene and pleated media or as carbon block filters, these pre-filters offer a primary layer of defense to help extend the life of whole home systems and filter out larger particles. This layer of defense is fairly standard on reverse osmosis systems and softeners as it is advised to protect these systems but even if you don't have this equipment, whole home housings and filters effectively reduce the amount of dirt, sediment, and silt that would flow through your plumbing and affect your water using appliances. Ensure you have the protection your systems and home need with Tier's line of Whole House Cartridge Systems.
