Kinetic Degradation Fluxion (KDF) is a high-purity copper-zinc formulation used around the world for water treatment.
KDF uses a chemical process known as redox (oxidation/reduction). The KDF redox process works by exchanging electrons with contaminants, changing them into harmless components. During their reactions, electrons are transferred between molecules and new elements are created. This chemical process removes iron, chlorine, mercury, lead, and hydrogen sulfide from water supplies.
Types of KDF and what they filter
KDF filters are typically used for pretreatment, primary water treatment, and industrial treatment procedures. They are usually used as a substitute, or in conjunction with, granular activated carbon filters. When KDF filters are used, there is no need for harmful chemical treatments.
The two types of KDF most often used for water filtration are KDF 55 and KDF 85.
KDF-55: is composed of finely granulated zinc and copper alloys. It is primarily used to treat chlorine taste and odor, heavy metals, and bacteria. This media is unmatched in its ability to reduce chlorine and heavy metals. The EPA states that it is outstanding at controlling bacteria because it is bacteriostatic.
KDF-85 is made of high purity copper and zinc granules. KDF-85 is used to treat iron, hydrogen sulfide, scale, bacteria, and algae. This media can be used on its own or used to protect existing water filters. People who have well water can use KDF 85 Media to reduce iron and sulfur from their water supplies.
